Hiking in the Salzburger Land

Lackenkogel – Flachau

The hike leads through woods and meadows into the beautiful Lackenalm area. The Lackenkogel offers a magnificent view of the Enns Valley. Actually, the Lackenalmen are already a worthwhile destination, but the Lackenkogel is then the highest (2,051 meters).

He immediately stands out. The 2,051 meter high Lackenkogel stands between the Zauch-valley and Flachauwinkel like a distinctive entrance guard. In addition to this exceptionally beautiful summit experience, the Lackenalmen, which spread out like a picture book on the well-protected north side, are especially thrilling. Four farmers share the fertile alpine pastures and focus on quite different priorities. One produces fine cheese, the other breeds mothers and on the highest alpine pasture about 20 oxen have found their enviable summer home.

In total, around 70 head of cattle spend the summer on 160 hectares of pasture, which, interestingly enough, does not have its own well, but has the centrally located, eponymous paints. Even the hikers can not complain. With the Göttfriedhütte (1,632 m) and the slightly higher Hinterkuchlberghütte (open daily) you will find two exemplary alms, which could not be more inviting. An optical and culinary eye-catcher is also the mountain inn Sattelbauer right at the starting point or end point of this pleasure hike in the Radstädter Tauern.

This is where the Lackenkogel Tour starts

From the B&B Hotel “DIE BERGQUELLE” you drive to the parking lot of Sattelbauer at 1,280 meters above sea level (driving time about 7 minutes, walking time about 1.5 hours). From there, a four-kilometer-long mountain road or from the bus stop a one-hour walk, which largely follows the popular natural toboggan run. A keen goat pulls attention at the parking lot right away. The trail 73 direction Lackenkogel runs past the original enclosure in the high forest. Up to the Lackenalmen the one-hour ascent is also possible on the pushchair-suitable farm route, it goes faster, of course, over the steeper forest trail. The level around the Lackenalmen invites you to take a breather, the mighty Lackenkogel but is still a very tempting destination. The path leads past the mountain pastures, an atmospheric crossroads and a small paint job, but then does not choose, as the ski touring climb in winter, the direct north route, but first runs on the southern ridge and then relatively flat on the summit. On the summit plateau you will find enjoyable box seats with an unobstructed view of the Dachstein massif opposite. The descent back to the alpine pasture paradise and back to Sattelbauer follows the already known path.
